Bad RTC chip??

Post by the amazing mumphred »

Hello,

I got one of the Data Logging Shields a couple months ago, and just finally got around to assembling it and trying it out. Was working thru the Data Logger Tutorial and was trying to run the ds1307 example sketch on the Uno 3.0 I got at the same time. Program compiles and uploads just fine, but when I turn on the Serial monitor it is outputting gibberish every couple of seconds. Several characters, then pauses, then some more characters, then pauses...

Since the program is just supposed to access the RTC feature on the shield, I am assuming that is the issue, but would be happy to find out I am wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember right, doesn't the sketch set the serial port to 57600? When you open the serial window, make sure the setting in the drop down is the same.
