Largest speaker to be used with waveshield?

by task on Tue Feb 12, 2013 6:12 am

I read this post viewtopic.php?f=31&t=33449&p=165665&hilit=speaker#p165665
I see there is an amp I can use, it is an option, but what is the largest speaker I can use with the waveshield without causing damage and without an amp?

I want to build some louder sound into my bomb prop, because the insects in the bush make more noise than my bomb prop when it "explodes" :)

2-3" is about the largest the little op-amp can handle. Our class-D amp will give you more power: https://www.adafruit.com/products/987
Or just plug in any powered computer speaker for a bigger sound.

These are all under 3'' and 8ohm

What is the max Watt I can look at using? I will play a 5 second sound file maximum every 10 seconds, not sure if that helps since the circuits can cool down

The max output of the on-board op-amp is 1/8 watt into an 8 ohm speaker, or 1/4 watt into a 4 ohm speaker. A 4 ohm speaker will be louder than the 8 ohm.
