DS1307 replacement

Post by spiney »

My Data logger shield does not provide date and time any more. It prints 165:165:85 Battery reads 3 V
I would like to change the DS1307 IC. Farnell offer two. "IC RTC Serial 64 x 8 * DIP" or "IC RTC YY-MM-DD 56 x 8 DIP-8"
Which one should I choose please?

64x8 sounds like the right part. Here is the data sheet of the one in the shield: http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/256/DS1307-99500.pdf

Links to those two items would help - the text descriptions you posted are not very specific. However, the DS1307 is 64x8, not 56x8, if that helps.
The Maxim datasheet is available here.

You might also consider one of our breakout boards, instead of messing around with a bare chip. We have a DS1307 breakout, and we have the Chronodot, which is code-compatible with the DS1307, but offers higher accuracy. Both attach to the I2C bus.

Thank you for your replies - both.
I have an Adafruit logger shield which is giving the problem; having established that the battery is still OK (despite an early assembly fault which shorted the 1st battery), I wanted to change the DIL component in hope that it would solve the problem. The shield did work some months ago and provided good dates and times using an Adafruit example code but now it does not with the same code.
The link to Farnell's site is http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse ... allpartial

Yup - the 64x8 dip is the one
