Is it possible to use the data shield in reverse? What I mean is, can you store data on the SD card and load it into the Arduino? I have a data file that's to big for the Arduino's memory.
If so, can you point me to a tutorial?

Yes. The SD library provides both read & write access to the file. Our display tutorials show how to read from the SD card to display bitmaps larger than memory. http://learn.adafruit.com/1-8-tft-displ ... ng-bitmaps
