Waveshield Free Pins

by Tom1988 on Thu Oct 31, 2013 9:06 am

Hello!

I have the waveshield hooked up to my arduino uno, working nicely (thanks to posts on here!)

I have added a speaker and am now interested in adding the last components of my project (Digital alarm clock, playing songs from the SD card)
I need to add a 4digit seven segment display (with colon), as well as some buttons (2, 3... not decided)

My problem now lies with the number of free pins.... the walkthrough tells me I have 4 Digital pins and the 6 Analog ones. However, my display has 16 (when I hooked it up to the Arduino Uno alone, I used 12). Can I share pins with the waveshield??? Am I going to have to get some form of driver chip??

I am a novice, any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Tom

Your best bet would be to use one of the 7-segment backpacks. These work over i2c (analog 4 & 5 on an Uno) and there will be no conflict with wave shield pins.

Thanks, I took a look at that and it looks like the best option. Do you have any vendors in the UK?
