AdaFruit MotorShield gets HOTT!! with DC motor.

Hello,
Running the adafruit motor shield ontop an arduino leonardo. I am running a small DC motor on M2. I have 9volt @800mah to motor. The motors runs for about 30 secs before voltage starts to drop and the shield get really HOTT. ?

i dont wanna cook the shield:(

Could you post a photo of how you have everything connected please? 800x600 images usually work best.

That is the older version of the shield. we haven't made those for a while.
I have 9volt @800mah to motor.
The H-bridge chips are only rated for 600mA. Do you have any specs for the motor?
From the description of the symptoms, I suspect that you are overloading the L293D chips and they are shutting down.

Thats the info for the motor i am using.

Maybe its time for a new motor shield, I ordered that one last year.

What is the best way to control Larger DC motors?

The V2 motor shield does handle higher current motors (up to 1.2A) Bui the motor specifications you provided do not mention the motor's current requirements. This is the most important parameter for choosing a motor controller.
