Motor Driver Shield and Encoder

Post by INANDOUT »

- SainSmart L293D Motor Drive Shield
- Arduino Uno
- 1 Stepper motor
- 1 Encoder

hi,
as a student research project I'm building a motor test stand, it contains a variety of stepper motors and an encoder to ensure the accuracy check. Now my question I would like to know if I can connect to the Adafruid Motor Shield instead of 2 stepper, a stepper and an encoder?
Thus, an output-> Stepper and an input-> encoder?
Can I use the Adafuit motor shield and Digital inputs from the encoder to read or do I have to plug it directly back into the Arduinoplatine?
greeting
Marcel

For technical support on SainSmart shields you should contact the manufacturer.

I recently bought a couple of NEMA 17 stepper motors from Adafruit.
While the accuracy of one of them (in both directions) is acceptable the other one instead of turning 180 degrees turns about 150 degrees in the forward direction, Accuracy of this motor in the backward direction seems to be acceptable.

Any way to correct it?
Should I send it back to Adafruit?
Thanks
FH

That sounds like it is missing steps. What are you using to power the motors?

Arduino Mega 2560 board.

Thanks.

Arduino Mega 2560 board.
The question is: "what power supply are you using for the motors?"

USB from desktop to Arduino Mega 2560.
Thanks,

That is a 12v motor. It may move with a 5v supply, but the torque will be very weak. It is not surprising that you are missing steps.
