LCD Shield

Post by slydoug12 »

Hey Guys!!

I am new to the Adafruit / Arduino family. looking to make a controller for an electronic semi-automatic pocket door. I would like to add fingerprint access and electronic key lock/unlock as well as LCD screen on the outside. Then on the inside a motion detector and LCD touch pad for locking unlocking and/or basic amusement.
I have just connected up my new arduino but can't seem to get a the LCD functioning. What was sent isn't the same as what you have printed in the instructions.

This is the first part of my order.
************************************************************************************************************
1 x IR distance sensor includes cable (20cm-150cm) (GP2Y0A02YK) [ID:1031] =
$15.95
1 x PIR (motion) sensor[ID:189] = $9.95
1 x Adafruit Motor/Stepper/Servo Shield for Arduino v2 Kit (v2.0) [ID:1438]
= $19.95
1 x 16mm Illuminated Pushbutton - Blue Latching On/Off Switch[ID:1476] =
$1.95
1 x LCD Shield Kit w/ 16x2 Character Display - Only 2 pins used! (BLUE AND
WHITE) [ID:772] = $19.95
1 x Starter Pack for Arduino (Includes Arduino Uno R3) (1.0) [ID:68] =
$65.00
2 x Small push-pull solenoid[ID:412] = $19.90

the lcd shield.png file is a image of the shield that I have assembled and doesn't power up with or without code loaded to Arduino

the instruction pic.jpg is what your instructions is telling me I should have. Notice the second row of pin-outs below the LCD panel (the package label says Blu LCD #181).

Would you so kind as to share the method to connect the different panel to the provided shield or send on the correct version of LCD

let me know what you guys can do!

Thanks,

Could you post clear pictures of your board, both sides and the connections to it? The LCD you have is just fine without the extra row of pins. If you look at the picture the bottom row is not connected. How did you connect the LCD to your shield?

The soldering looks OK. What are you doing to test the LCD and have you tried adjusting the contrast pot to see if that helps. Are you running a program on the Arduino to drive the LCD?

problem solved! using another machine. For some reason on my other pc uploading libraries thru the Adriano program didn't work.
