Larger Stepper

Post by n10669 »

Hi, I built a project that uses two steppers off of the adafruit motorshield v2. The steppers I'm using can be found here https://www.adafruit.com/products/324. I'm running these with a 12v 1 amp external power supply so these motors will turn the load fine but I need something with more holding torque. Can anyone suggest a motor that I can purchase?

I read that I could run up to a 24 volt 0.5 amp motor but that was with the motorshield v1, does that still hold true for the v2 motorshield? If I do run that voltage and amperage will that up the holding torque or just increase the power to turn the load?
Thanks Mark

The V2 motor shield can handle up to 1.2A @ 12v. Power is voltage times current. In general for stepper motors, more power means more torque..
