Wave Shield not playing sound

Post by levranido »

Hey!
I was making 3 Wave Shields. 2 of them are working great! one isn't playing.
It looks like it is, no errors, but no sound coming out.
If I switch-out the shield with one of the others, it works great.

Attached are pictures of my circuit .

My biggest issue here is I need this working by tomorrow evening (Monday).

Thank!
Ido.

If it says it's playing files, that means the SD card holder and '125 are fine. if no sound is coming out, its probably something to do with the two 8-pin DAC + amplifier chips! they look like they could use more solder, you shouldn't see any 'gold' on the pads.

Hey!

I have done it, it worked for a little bit and now it's not working again.
I'm shooting a show for TV today with this (in an hour an a half) so your reply ASAP will be great!

If this helps - when "playing" i can hear a really quote buzz from the speaker, when the file length is done, the noise is gone.

Thanks!

Attaching new photos.

if it worked for a bit then stopped, maybe something is loose? soldering looks much better but maybe give the parts and shield a bit of a wiggle to see if something is not seated right. check that the volume is turned up of course, but that the pins of the volume knob aren't touching the USB jack, some electrical tape on the top of the jack will help.

If you have a pair of inexpensive ear-bud-type headphones, you can check the output of the DAC as described here:

OK - SO..

Based on your reply before last, I tried moving parts a bit to see what is causing the disconnect.
It turns out the issue was the jumper connecting 2 and LCS, there was something in the soldering that was not stable.
So I took it out, and re soldered a jumper wire and everything worked for the Shoot.

Thank you for the help.
