safe to power xbee adapter with 6v?

Post by jefflaut »

I know the xbee adapter calls for 5v to the regulator, but I was wondering if it is possible to power it with 6v and not have any problems.

thanks

what is the supply voltage range that can safely be applied to the 5v pin? +3.3v to +12.0v ? thx

the datasheet says 6V so i'd stick around there if you can. i often put up to 9V batteries on there but its not suggested!

Does the Xbee adapter protect against reverse polarity being applied? I was running mine at 6V when I stupidly connected power to my bread board the wrong way round. I'm now reading about 1.1v across the empty xbee vcc and gnd, the FTDL cable is giving a good 5V. Xbee module seems to be ok in other adapters.
cheers!

sounds like the regulator got whacked. theres no reverse protection unfortunately. You can replace the MCP1700-330 for about $0.50 from your favvy electronics component seller

Thanks for the response! I'll get it on with a repair and let you know how it goes!

Now fixed and working! Only hard part was removing the old regulator! Thanks again Limor!
