I had a few questions about the XBee module. Currently I am making a usb data logging cable for early model Mitsubishi turbo cars. The cable is using a ftdi chip to convert rs232 to ttl. I am considering the possibility for a wireless data logging solution and bluetooth seems to be too expensive for my application. I'm looking into using XBee modules and would like some more info.
Do they communicate in TTL?
Is there possibly a white paper for them somewhere so i can get pin outs and some technical specs on them?
Is it possible to use custom baud rates?
I think I may be able to skip the ftdi chip all together and just use the XBee module with a cable that plugs into my car. I also need the "link" to be open at all times. I do not want to have to wake up the connection. If the car is on I want the data logging application to be able to poll the diagnostic port via wireless at any time.
Any help or information you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
