firmware update fails w/"Lost communication with modem"

Post by rickbol »

X-CTU firmware update fails with "Programming modem...Lost communication with modem"

Recently purchased XBEE adapters and xbee modems. XB24 modems have firmware 1084. Downloaded most recent X-CTU and firmware updates from DIGI. Windows XP SP3.

I can set different com parameters with xctu and "+++" and "AT" respond with "OK" from xtcu term and hyperterminal. XCTU "read" shows all default settings (except when I changed port speed... it showed the change). I am able to change it back.

For FTDI drivers, I'm using the MIDIfied drivers from adafruit.

Can't yet test whether the modems can communicate using firmware 1084, but feel I need to be able to upgrade the firmware.

Recommendations?

i think its the FTDI driver :(
try uninstalling it and installing the 'classic' driver?

is there a particular version of "the classic" I should be installing. Saw in another post on this error that the driver version may need to be previous to the current.

... oh, but I regress...

SOLVED:

I installed the driver mentioned in a previous post on this topic and I was able to update firmware using it. It's location was here:

http://www.ladyada.net/media/xbee/FTDIVCP2driver.zip

I'm trying to play with wireless MIDI, so the entire [PITA] process was:

1) remove installed drivers using the FTClean utility from DIGI's website.

2) install driver from link above (v2.0.0.1?)

3) update firmware on all modems (2)

4) remove drivers again using util in #1 above

5) install MIDIfied driver from here (v2.4.16.1?):
http://www.ladyada.net/media/midibee/MI ... driver.zip

... so I can set the midi port speed etc, and begin experimenting.

Thanks for the suggestion.
