is my xbee bricked?
i have previously connected my series 1 xbee to my pc (windows 7 64-bit) via X-CTU using some shoddy sparkfun board. out of the hundreds of times i test/queried it did not work. i then purchased a couple of adafruit xbee explorer boards. soldered it all up (very impressed with the board quality) and plugged in an xbee. the green light is blinking so i know the xbee isnt dead. with the new explorer board i have tried to test/query it in X-CTU and sent the +++ in hyper terminal but both times i get no response. are my xbees bricked? or does it have something to do with windows 7 64 bit?

Which Adafruit adapter are you using?
Does the adapter or cable show up in your Device Manager as a serial port?

Re: is my xbee bricked?
since i asked this question i have had a little bit of success. i found a restore button in X-CTU, which restores them to factory settings. i can now test/query successfully and read the firmware, however i cannot update the firmware at all. i cant even configure the xbee (baud, pan id etc.).
i am using the adapter with an fdti cable.
(and yes it does show up in device manager)

Re: is my xbee bricked?
So you are communicating with it to some extent now. That rules out a driver problem. Does X-CTU report any error messages of any kind when you try to upload or configure the XBee?
You might also post this on the Digi forums. The engineers there know these modules inside and out.

Could be an intermittent connection. Make sure all connections are firmly seated & try not to bump the cable during the download. You might try a different usb port too.

For the record, I use Windows 64-bit with X-CTU without any problems. So that's not likely to be your issue, though anything is possible.

Re: is my xbee bricked?
Even though Digi says the X-CTU program is not supported for 64 bit Windows it worked fine for us. I have seen others on the Digi forums state they have had problems under 64 bit Windows.
I am curious if James has tried a different XBee in the same adapter to rule out any issues with the adapter itself.
