series 1 vs. 2?

Post by forgetcolor »

I'm building a system where the following is possible:

a collection of users have small boxes where they press a button
the press increments a counter on an attached LCD display
the new value gets uploaded to a receiver that keeps track of everyone's values and displays them

I'm going to try the xbee for this. will attach to an arduino. need one as receiver, the rest as senders. probably about 25-30 senders.

Clearly my bandwidth needs are super low. I care about power consumption, ease of use, and range. This will be for a large indoor gallery space.

Any suggestions on which one is more appropriate?

It sounds like you could accomplish your task with Series 1 modules. We don't carry the Series 2 in the store. While they do have some very nice advanced capabilities, they are a bit trickier to get set-up right.

When I said series 2 I was referring to this radio in the ada store:

Is this not series 2?

That's embarrasing  I didn't see those added to the catalog.

In any case, as the product description states, they are not quite as 'plug and play' as the Series 1. the Building Wireless Sensor Network book, however, is a great resource for building a network of these.
