ETA on new design?

Post by vankanma »

I've been holding off my purchase till more info comes out on the new design.
I just have one question, is the redesign just that, or is it a new design meant to be sold along side and compliment the old one?
ok, two questions, what the ETA on the new design?, possible Xmas gifts?

@jvdb, yes you're right, I was referring to that post.
@ladyada, from your comments I'm assuming that this is just a small revision for easier programming as well as easier access with the new enclosure and that the original clock will be replaced with this version? not that matters cause I love the design and I don't see myself revising the firmware too often.
I went ahead and ordered the current version, can't wait to get it.
Sorry if I'm being nosy.

I'm pretty sure she's referring to an entirely new clock design that is completely different from the Ice Tube Clock. Not VFD-based, etc. Essentially, a new product.

Not to be too spoileriffic, but from what I saw on the chat last night this is a new clock adafruit is working on. Think pong and LCD instead of VFD. ;)

Judging from the pictures, it actually *is* a VFD. Noritake makes several. Matrix Orbital carries them, although I'm not sure who the manufacturer is on those.

I always liked the Pong Clock from http://www.burovormkrijgers.nl/, but it's deceptively small and rather pricey. I went the laptop conversion route for mine. Then it fell off the wall at work when we had some construction done :(

This one looks nice.

its not a VFD, its an LCD. we are pretty sure that we have the same manufacturer brand as those from Matrix Orbital, but they're custom made! The clock is desktop-sized (not wall sized) but will have the price to match :)
