GBH your problem is different, you should have started a new thread. if you could do that it would helpful since its more difficult to debug a problem with two people alternating in one thread

your microcontroller was fried. did you by chance attempt to reprogram it? or touch high voltage to any of the pins?

I do not think that I have touch any of it's pins to any high voltage or trying to reprogram it. There was no static discharge from where I live as it's pretty humid all year round... strange... I did not suspect anything wrong with the micro-controller since it beeps every time I power it up... and the clock was working for a short while before the display was gone...

Just received the board with the new chip yesterday. Installed the tube and assembled the enclosure. It has been working from yesterday morning til now... Yay... :D

Thanks ladyada for all the patient and the replacement chip...
