White Getter on back of the display tube [pebkec error]

Post by billmorton »

Edit - it is normal, ignore this post.

Is this normal, I noticed some white flaky looking stuff a few days ago, or perhaps I am just noticing it more. It does make the first few digits look a bit different from the front, but I am obscenely detail oriented.

It is normal for the tube to have a black 'spot' on the back and white 'paint' on the back of the display.

Foiled by the parts list, but I learned something new:
wikipedia wrote: A getter is a reactive material used for removing traces of gas from vacuum systems, such as vacuum tubes. Residual gas can be left in vacuums by inadequate vacuum pumps, or adsorbed gasses can be released after evacuation by the inner surfaces of the container. The getter is usually a coating applied to a surface within the evacuated chamber. When molecules of residual gas strike the getter surface they chemically combine with the material, removing them from the evacuated space.
