I finished building my Monochron yesterday, and today, with some scouring of the forums (Win7 ftdi driver issue), was able to upload some different firmware. I really enjoyed this project; thanks for such a great kit!

Just finished the Ice Tube Clock, really fun project. Although I have to say, whoever designed the end of the tube with those wires... threading them through those holes... you are just mean.

Meet the Monochron!
I finally got some free time in the shop time to catch up on some personal projects. I did a little redesign of the Monochron enclosure. The standard acrylic enclosure was a nice enough, but I wanted something with a little more personality.
The head was glued up from some scaps of mahogany I had left over from some furniture projects. After milling a recess for the electronics and a mortise for the leg, the shape was roughed out freehand on the bandsaw, then refined with carving tools and sanded smooth. Finish is 3 coats of tung oil and 2 coats of wax.
The bezel is carved from a scrap of maple and attaches to the head via 4 rare-earth magnets. I designed it to be interchangeable so I can give it different faces for different moods. There are no externally visible controls - but all are easily accessible when the bezel is removed. The power cord is routed through the leg and exits at the heel.

First try on a clock kit, must say it was easy enough, I think the case was the hardest part
Nothing modified, yet.

I received my Ice Tube clock today, it was good fun assembling it. Sorting out all the leads on the tube was less fun, but a good challenge.
Here it is, along with my Monochron that I assembled a few months ago:
(It's difficult getting a clear picture of the Ice Tube clock!)

Although this is not a kit, but it does use adafruit parts.

Hello,
I added the Monochron Clock to my collection and made a modification so it plays the game of life. Details can be found on my blog: http://blog.planetbuckley.com/2011/05/m ... -life.html
Now I wait for the next Adafruit clock kit...

Thank you, Ladyada, for a lovely little kit. It's been far too long since I've had the soldering iron in my hand.
