FTDI and ISP headers

Post by neutron spin »

Newbie here....Here is the deal....I am ready to program the ATmega328P that has never been programmed. The clock is assembled and my next daunting task is programming the beast. Of course this will be my first attempt at doing this. I have a USBtinyISP AVR Programmer Kit on order and as soon at it arrives the fun begins. I noticed that there are cutouts in the plastic case (which also is on order) for the FTDI and ISP headers and I was wondering if it was OK to solder them on the board. Then I could program the chip before the case was installed and just leave them installed after the board was in the case. Another question....which set of headers will be used with the USBtinyISP AVR Programmer? Any suggestions appreciated.

Thank you. I will just stick them on the board and hope connection will work. I appreciate all the information you folks provide. The tutorials are great and I am learning sooooo much from them. Thanks again.
