Ice Tube does not light

Post by photohc »

Well, I'm hoping you can help me with this. I've finished the assembly of my Ice Tube and the display tube does not light up. Through out the assembly, I was able to test all voltages successfully. I get the start up beep. I get a single segment of a digit and the decimal. Thats it. I double checked all components, and followed the troubleshoot guide regarding no display and still no display. So I'm hoping you can help me with this. Maybe I've got a bad tube. I think I did a decent job of soldering it all. Here are some photos to show what I have. Thanks.

I get a single segment of a digit and the decimal.
So the tube lights partially? Can you measure the bias voltage on the side of R3 closest to Q3 with the tube installed?

I'm getting a voltage of 3.07 at that point. When I touched my measuring probe on R3 closes to Q3, the display tube lit up! So it would appear the tube is okay and the connections to the mainboard is ok. So where else do I look? When I remove the probe, the display goes dark again. Touching, it lights up again.

OK. We've had a rash of similar reports recently and we are trying to get to the bottom of it. One customer is sending his clock in for analysis. We will be reporting progress on the issue in this thread: http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.ph ... 8&start=15

Thank you for your patience!

Ok, I saw the post regarding reversing Q3. I managed to clip it out, turn it around and re-solder. All now works ok. Thanks.
