Ice Tube Clock - No beep

Post by jksan »

I started building my Ice Tube Clock, and I should now hear the buzzer beep. Unfortunately no beep...

I've checked following things:

Voltage input to the regulator: 7.8V
Voltage output of the regulator: 5.04V
Voltage at pin 7 of the microcontroller is 4.8V
Pins 8 and 22 of the microcontroller are connected to ground

I also checked the pins of the buzzer and found they were connected to pins 15 and 16 of the microcontroller.

Is it possible that the microcontroller is not programmed?

The build looks good so far. But your voltage measurements look off.
Are you using the 9v adapter that comes with the kit? The regulator input voltage should be closer to 9v. And the 0.6v drop between the regulator and the microcontroller doesn't look normal either. Is the regulator getting hot?

Thanks for your quick reply. I should have mentioned that I'm not using the 9v adapter (have to get a US->Europe plug adapter), but a fully charged 6x1,2V NiMH battery pack.

Voltage drop is not 0.6V but a little over 0.2V (diode voltage drop?). All parts including the regulator are cool.

Sorry, I was reading that as 5.4v instead of 5.04v. The 0.2v would be the diode drop.

So you power looks normal and the build looks clean. Missing firmware would be the next likely candidate. If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread we can send you a replacement processor.

OK thank you! I will post to this forum later when I get the replacement processor.
