MDC ECM Luna EXP Emergency Stops! (argghhh!)

Post by lunatic_express »

Now then!

The company I work for are the proud owner of this wonderful bit of kit. I think in the states it's sold as a Manncorp 7722, or something like that...

So I've been reading through these forums and have found lots of useful information on this crazy machine. Seem to have got the thing to start behaving more (in terms of part recognition), but I seem to be averaging a good 3-4 emergency stops in every working day.

I've been looking at my system constants and comparing the figures to the ones listed in the help guide here... They're completely different! Am I right in assuming the X and Y motors are controlled by K16 through to K21?

After asking our local service rep, it was recommended we decrease (#1) of K19 & K20 by 20%; and increase (#1) of K21 by 20%. However, it seems to have made no difference. So I changed them back! I'm assuming I probably needed to alter K16 through to K18 too.... and there seems to be a major discrepancy between K17(#2) and K20 (#2) - which I *think* are the X and Y motor start speeds... surely they should be the same....

Here are the system constants. My changes are in (brackets).
K16 (#1) 800
(#2) 500
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K17 (#1) 20
(#2) 43400
(#3) 5
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
K18 (#1) 100
(#2) 300
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K19 (#1) 800 (600)
(#2) 500
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K20 (#1) 20 (16)
(#2) 50
(#3) 5
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K21 (#1) 100 (120)
(#2) 300
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0

So..... can anyone help? I must admit, the machine seems to be getting worse every day.

Just as a note, we run the machine for about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week and we've had it for a couple of years. I'm pretty sure it's due a major service, however I'm pretty new to this kinda thing!

Cheers me dears!

ok, bit of an update.... when you enter assembly mode, using the modified figures in the system constant, the head seems to operate at 100mph when you are lining up the bias point / fiducials.....

for some strange reason also K21's remark had changed from 'WSL1/XSL1' to 'HEAD#2 315 DEG' or something equally strange......

*FIXED*
column (#2) had changed it's value from 300 to 0.... as well as the remark changing. Odd.

Look how unfrustrated I appear. It's all a show. Sometimes I feel like using a baseball bat on this thing.....

Just to clarify what i've been up to... I came to the conclusion I was only altering the Y axis motor's speed with the mods, so I've altered K16, right through to K21 (in theory slowing down X and Y motors...)

This is what I have:
K16
(#1) 600
(#2) 500
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K17
(#1) 16
(#2) 43400
(#3) 5
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
K18
(#1) 120
(#2) 300
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K19
(#1) 600
(#2) 500
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K20
(#1) 16
(#2) 50
(#3) 5
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0
K21
(#1) 120
(#2) 300
(#3) 0
(#4) 0
(#5) 0
(#6) 0

Seems to be operating at the same speed as before! Can anyone confirm I am altering the motor speed, as it states in the manual?!

Oh, and I got an Emergency Stop after 1.5 hours building.

F**king thing...!!

the software may have changed. you should get your rep to give you isono's email address since he will know the exact #'s to change. also you may want to look into replacing the Y motor supply as indicated in the wiki

Yeah, I was thinking my software looked a little different to some of your screenshots! They're quite reluctant to connect the machine to the net over here, so I'm running whatever was installed on it 4 years ago. On XP Service pack 1! old skool!

Interesting how you mentioned the Y PSU and our rep mentioned slowing the Y motor down.... Does the problem not affect the X axis too?

Ta for your help!

Woody

it seems to be a Y motor issue. if you take a photo of your machine control board during an emergency stop we'll check it out

The Y motor uses a lot more power than the X/Z motors. I believe they are using better supplies for Y by default now, but I've had this problem as well and had to slow the Y down quite a bit. I have a replacement power supply but the actual replacement work has been sidetracked because of work.

I suspect that's your problem. But also see if you can get new SW. There have a been a lot of bug fixes, but only MDC (tha manufacturers) wold actually know the compatability issues between the current SW and your machine. They seemt o make regular iterative changes on the HW.
