Desoldering PC3200 RAM

Post by zv470 »

Hi, I bought 1GB PC3200 RAM, unfortunately it's double sided and won't work in an old DELL. I've got a hot air station... if I remove the chips on the back, does anyone know if it would work as 512MB RAM?

In theory yes, but I'm guessing the pin spacing on the chips will have 40-pitch or better. Working with them may be a challenge. You'll also have much better luck working with them if you can find a datasheet for the specific chips on the board.
