What type of solder and flux does Adafruit recommend

Post by dmh »

Hi,

In general I was looking to find out what type of solder and flux to use for my Arduino projects. I hear lead free is good. And I hear liquid flux is good but that you should clean the residue off with rubbing alcohol afterwards.

Thanks

The 60/40 rosin core solder is the one we use. It is easy to work with, and requires no cleanup.

If you live in an area where leaded solder is banned entirely, we also have lead-free rosin core solder.

How often should I use tip cleaner on an iron?

Depends on what you mean by tip cleaner. I use one of those copper "pot scrubber things and clean the iron when it gets burned on flux residue (every 20 minutes or so depending on the amount of soldering I am doing) I clean again before putting the iron away and flood the tip with solder as I turn it off.
