Hello, i'm interested in using the microscope in an application that would require it to be at an approx 45 degree angle from my sample, and was wondering how "tight" I could expect the DOF to be.

Microscopes in general have pretty shallow DOF due to the extreme magnification. If you are working with static images, focus-stacking might be an option for extending that.
