Soldering Iron Temperature
What heat should a soldering iron for doing things like assembling shields and kits (DIY electronics)?

Re: Soldering Iron Temperature
Typically this range 200° - 450°C.

Re: Soldering Iron Temperature
Hi Techno,
60/40 melts about 370°F
Lead-free solders range from about 380 to 410°F depending on the lead replacements.
I see no point making soldering extra difficult by buying low cost or
difficult to use solder.
Get a name brand, reasonable wire-size, with an 'activated' flux.
As an example, Ersin makes a 63/37, multi-core, in a 0.031"-dia.
Solder with no flux, 50/50, 40/60, large-diameter or bar-solder are
pretty much a waste of time for electronic uses.
Good Luck, John
I prefer 63/37 (eutectic) solder - it melts at 362°F (the lowest temp).TechnoWiz2Cubed wrote:What heat should a soldering iron for doing things like assembling shields and kits

Hmmm ... I don't think your question was really answered.TechnoWiz2Cubed wrote:What heat should a soldering iron for doing things like assembling shields and kits (DIY electronics)?
He's asking about the tip temperature for soldering. The soldering iron should be around 650 - 700 deg F (~350 - 375 C)for general soldering. You can check this advice by Googling it.

Re: Soldering Iron Temperature
For lead-free solders, I find that 750ºF/400ºC works well.
