Hi
I recently assembled one of the keypad shields http://www.adafruit.com/products/715. Today I decided to better not place the LCD on the shield, but its too late for that. Soldered the LCD on because I could wait to play with it. Now I need to de-solder the LCD from the shield. Tried that but it wont move a µ.
What should I do? What *can* I do? I've been using a desoldering pump and an Ersa Tip 260 (http://www.ersa.com/art-0260bd-358-1705.html).
Or would it be easier to change the case and forget about desoldering header pins?

Re: Desoldering not done right
Since it's an ordinary pinheader, I would cut the pins, and solder them off one by one, and solder on new ones. The price of pinheaders (atleast on ebay) is next to nothing, compared destroying the pcb

Re: Desoldering not done right
I was rather afraid of doing that because I'd have to try to do it twice. Once for the LCD and again for the shield.
I found this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0uNiaVFw1c Looks rather spectacular but he's quick!
Edit: This one looks promising: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULWDrF-JEUk Desotering using a vacuum desoter iron.

All three of the methods will work, I've also used solder braid and there is a product called chipquik that might help. http://www.chipquik.com/products.html

Thanks Franklin
I did remove the header but I had to rely on brute force. Don't know if the PCB survived the treat. Heating and desolder wire didn't help much. I didn't dare to give it full heat.
I'll try to get some chipquick. Farnell seems to sell it which is good because "Europe"
