hakko fx888d

Post by mganenko »

Hello,

Could someone please help me with soldering station. I want to buy Hakko FX888D, but it would be quite expensive to get it from Adafruit as shipping costs ~$70 to BANNED by UPS. I've found this item on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123, but I suspect that it might be non-genuine.

1. Is there a way to make out a counterfeit?

2. As I understand, a genuine Hakko FX888D is powered by 110AC. Is there any problem using 220->110 AC converter to use this soldering station?

It is very difficult to identify counterfeit offers. The best way to assure authenticity is to buy from an authorized dealer.

Have you looked at our distributor list? I believe we have a distributor in the BANNED: http://www.adafruit.com/distributors/

Thanks, I contacted the distributor, waiting for reply. I have no big expectations though.

May be you could deliver to BANNED by some slow but less expensive method, please?

neslekkim, thank you for the suggestion. I fear to get non-genuine soldering station in BANNED. I can order it at Adafruit for $109 + $71 => $180, but that's almost twice the price. Or it might be eBay $90 + $30 => $120, but that I'm sure would be non-genuine. So I'm trying to find some solution between $120 and $180 for genuine one.

Hello, I'm going to order Adafruit Haddo FX-888D via local Ukrainian Adafruit distributor. That will cost me $145 and 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Dear Adafruit, please answer me these questions:
1. Can I somehow check whether that item is bought at Adafruit?
2. Can I use this tip with FX-888D? http://www.adafruit.com/products/1250
3. I've got 220V AC 50Hz at home, so can I use a step-down transformer like this to use the soldering station? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-100W-Watts ... 4858262fa9

3 - That transformer does not appear to be suitable for powering a soldering iron. If mains power in your country is 220v, you would be better off with a 220v version of the FX-888D.
2 - All the tips we sell should fit the 888D.
1 - I will see if I can verify this

3 - Can I buy 220v version of FX-888D at Adafruit? If no, which power should step down converter provide to power FX-888D with 220V AC ?

Is this an option? http://www.abetec.cz/eshop/product/esd- ... odrozluta/ I agree that getting one with the correct voltage is your best option. you could also look at getting a cheep "knock off" iron that uses hakko tips and just put the money you save toward the new one you will buy when that fails (and it may never fail and work for you for years to come, who knows?) There are also people out there building Open source soldering iron controllers that you could build to suit your needs. http://dangerousprototypes.com/tag/soldering-station/

To confirm this, can you tell us the name of the Adafruit distributor you are dealing with?

franklin97355, thank you for your suggesting, but those two versions of Hakko FX-888D 220V from Czech and Slovakia cost $212 and $235 respectively without shipping cost. I can beat them all even by buying directly from Adafruit for $180 including shipping costs (and get it within 4 days). I would like to buy exactly this Hakko soldering station as I feel like that would be my ultimate soldering station for the whole life.
Could you please tell me what's the problem with 220->110 converter in my case?

adafruit_support_bill, the distributor is http://parts.dn.ua/
We haven't signed any agreement yet, but in the nearest time I'll make a prepayment, so the distributor hadn't ordered the soldering station yet.
What I wanted to know was whether I could check that the soldering station had been bought directly from you and had not been exchanged with chinese version.
Also, do you sell 220v version of this item?

adafruit_support_bill, I do trust to Adafruit, that's out of question. But I'm going to buy the hakko from your Ukrainian distributor which I can't trust as much, so I wish I could check (in several weeks when the hakko would arrive) whether the distributor had bought the hakko from you.
