40 Watt and 80 Watt soldering irons same temperature?

Post by cosmicvoyager »

Greetings,

Weller's 40 Watt and 80 Watt soldering irons are both 900 degrees, so what is the difference?

Thanks

An 80 watt iron will heat up faster, and be able to solder larger-more massive joints. The models linked are more appropriate for automotive or appliance work. For electronics work, you would want something with a finer tip.

I'd go with this for a first iron http://www.adafruit.com/products/180 unless you just have to have one of those red Wellers. Then I'd get the 25w kit.
