I got my brand new Hakko FX-888, tried to use it with a step down transformer (220V to 110V) but it won't turn on :( any Idea what is going on?

What is the rating of your transformer? The Hakko requires at least 70 Watts. These are designed for North American 120v/60Hz systems. I don't know how it will perform on 50Hz.

At first I used 20W and then realized it is not enough so I used 120W transformer (outputs 60Hz)

A transformer changes the voltage, but not the frequency, so 50 Hz in is 50 Hz out. This model is specified for North American mains power. let me check if operation on a transformer is supported.
