I purchased a pair of Mitutoyu Digimatic calipers about 9 months ago. I've been very happy with them, until recently, when they were bumped off a worktable.
After this, when about 120mm is reached, the readings fluctuate randomly.
It seems that there's a small dent close to the high end of the scale.
Can it be replaced? Should I contact Mitutoyo?
Thank you,
Dave M.

Re: Mitutoyo Absolute Digimatic calipers - Wacky readings on
A small dent on the bar shouldn't have much effect on the caliper's ability to measure distance, but there's a slight chance that the capacitive sensor built into the bar was damaged.
At 9 months, my first suspect would be the battery though. Try replacing that and see if the readings become stable again.
If it doesn't, I'm afraid there isn't much we can do. 9 months is well past our 30 day replacement period, and based on your description any damage would be the result of environmental causes rather than a manufacturing defect.
