Show & Tell Contributor Set Up Advice

Post by blubluh »

As more contributors join the Show & Tell , it becomes clear that many people - including your viewers - would benefit from some sagely advice about setting up audio and visual devices for broadcasting from one's tinkering lair. Mishaps like poor audio quality, muting/de-muting miscues, lighting, window sharing, camera (mis)orientation, camera shake, etc. really waste precious Show & Tell time and detract from the awesome presentations (and tax the patience of certain, persnickety viewers - like me).

Since you folks have gobs of experience - both good and bad - with this technology, why not put up a tutorial with suggestions, including how to perform "dry-runs" to test one's set up and to make sure one knows how to operate the equipment in real time, including locating critical screen-buttons, switching between cameras, mics and such.

Obviously, Adafruit cannot predict or cover the variety of equipment available to contributors. Yet, it should be feasible to poll contributors who consistently make successful presentations for their set ups as well as those of Adafruit employees/associates and put together a list of a few "guaranteed to work" set ups (perhaps going from minimalist to super-elaborate).

thanks for the post, google changed hangouts completely, once they stabilize on their current set up(s) we'll have some how-to guides. generally speaking macs are the easiest to work with, muting or un-muting is the mic icon and the new buttons on the side now have roll-overs with tool-tips on hover-over.

we'll do a how-to show and tell, show and tell as well soon too :)

thanks,
