FONA Direct Powering from BeagleBone Black

Post by EdwinC »

1. I am just wondering if it is possible to directly power the Fona from the BBB?
2. Also with that, does the Fona need a battery to exclusively work?
3. What connections do i need to make from BBB or Raspberry Pi to an external device to allow direct charging?
4. Any suggestions on powering up two circuit boards i.e 5V 1.0A input each with one plug that somehow splits for both. Basically having both use one adapter to the wall.
NB: Total newbie but trying to make my projects more uncluttered.

You would need a supply that has enough current to power both. If each takes 5V 1A you would need a 2A supply. Split the cord so you have two 5V and ground connections and connect one pair to each device.

Careful!! The Fona takes 3.4 - 4.4 V input, you cant use 5v to power it..
