thanks for the extremely detailed write-up, looking forward to testing the combination teensy 3 and the neopixel strip.
So far I have been happy with using the teensy 2 in combination with the lpd8806 strip, but this looks like the way to go for larger-scale projects.

I have a similar question about the holding of a single color. If you do a byte copy of the string and save that to memory somewhere, would it make swapping to that color faster than using the colorswipe? For instance if i wanted my strip to cycle on a button press to predefined colors (just for example since im more thinking of user defined images) could i create constants with the string data, then do a memcpy() to the string being sent on button press? Then to hold that color just need to loop refreshing the strip right?
