EL wire clock or numeric display project

Ever since I saw both EL wire and nixi tubes I though they should be combined.

Instead of a 7 segment display, 10 digit display that are 12 inches tall on black cloth and can snap one to the next.
Or for custom job created on a single piece.

I envision a wide wooden picture frame with black cloth displaying the time in LE Wire digits.
Larger displays could use outline of numbers instead of a single line to represent each digit.

Maybe some one has already thought the same thing but I have not found any projects.

Anyway I hope someone picks this idea up and does something with it.

An EL nixie-style display would be pretty cool. i believe Sparkfun has a shield for switching sections of EL wire.
