Adalight 150 Led on Arduino Uno

Postby Arthrax » Thu Feb 14, 2013 6:32 am

Hello,

I'm going to start my Adalight project with your good tuto. I need 150 leds for my 55 inches TV but I have some questions :

1. Arduino uno is enough to manage 150 Leds https://www.adafruit.com/products/50 ? otherwise I have a Raspberry Pi 512 Mb, can it run XBMC and drive 150 Led ?
2. This power supply is enough : http://www.adafruit.com/products/658 ?
3. I need 6 of this pack of 25 led : http://www.adafruit.com/products/322, for settings I just need to plug the first pack on second then on third then on ... until the last one on the power supply ?

Thank you :D

Hi there,

For large LED installations, I recommend using a "USB native" microcontroller like the Teensy 2.0, Arduino Leonardo or Micro. The serial connection on the Uno isn't fast enough. For any of these alternate microcontrollers, you'll need to adapt the wiring from what's in the tutorial to each board's unique SPI pins.

That's an ideal power supply, yep.

Six strands of 25 LEDs, yes. But for long runs like this, you can't just power it from one end...you'll need to "fan out" the power to multiple connection points (I would suggest three, using 18 gauge wire). See the Advanced Topics page of the Adalight tutorial.

Thank you very much for your help :D

So let's go for Teensy 2.0 and a fan out system.
