Adafruit_RGBLCDShield & 12 volts
I recently started working with LCD's, I mistakenly applied 12 volts to one of my Adafruit_RGBLCDShields, it now acts like a piece of toast. Can I recover from this by replacing the chip or the display, or salvage it for parts ? Any help. Thanks.

Re: Adafruit_RGBLCDShield & 12 volts
Ouch! 12v is more than enough to kill the port expander chip and/or the display The rest of the board should be fine. We do stock both the MCP23017 chips and the displays.
Tip: To de-solder a multi-pin component that is presumed dead or otherwise worthy of sacrifice, first clip all the legs, then de-solder them one-by-one. It is much easier than trying to de-solder multiple pins simultaneously. For the display header, a good pair of wire cutters will easily cut through both the plastic spacer and the header pins.
