Adafruit NeoPixel Digital RGB LED Strip 144 LED - Technical

Post by slight »

Hello Adafruit-Team,

i just wanted to know what is the smallest (static) bending radius to the inside for the Adafruit NeoPixel Digital RGB LED Strip 144 LED ??
for inside i mean bending to a ring so that the leds are pointing to the center of this ring.

thanks for your help and keep up the good stuff
:-)

sunny greetings
stefan

As a rule, the minimum bend radius for any conductor is 10x its diameter, or thickness in the case of a flexible circuit.

For that strip, the edges of the NeoPixels will probably run into each other before you reach the limiting bend radius of the strip.

ok thanks for this explanation.
is there some info about the thickness of this strip?
i do not have found this detail on the product-page -
theres only the length and width (1000mm x 12mm) in the product data..

I'm away from the desk but will check it with a micrometer when I get a chance. At a guess I'd say it's about 0.007".

(I've spent a lot of time in machine shops measuring things between 0.001" and 0.010") ;-)

hm - if i calculated that the right way that would equals 0,1778mm -thats only the flex strip?!
i think interesting as additional data for the product is the height of the stip inclusive the leds (NeoPixels).

I just took a series of measurements, and the average strip thickness was about 0.009".. a little thicker than I expected.

Bottom line, you'll put unnecessary stress on the solder joints before you reach the strip's minimum bend radius.
