So I carefully soldered together the kit enjoying every moment of it but in the end had no joy. The main problem is that rPi won't boot after attaching the kit. I have gone through all of the solder joints to check for shorts but haven't found any.
I checked another post that mirrors mine quite closely except that mine doesn't boot, ever. http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.ph ... pi#p223499
If I remove the LCD board the rPi boot just fine. Plugging it in while the rPi is running causes it to crash. The LED on the power supply goes dark. Removing the board will cause the rPi to reboot and it comes up fine.
Not sure what to do next on this. Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like there's some kind of short circuit in the plate. Post a photo of it (800x600 images work best), well enough lit and with enough detail we can see the components and the soldering, and we'll see if we can spot any clues.

Just going through and testing pins that are next to each other looking for shorts. I found that the two pins below have zero resistance between them. Is that normal?

After testing all of the pins i scrapped off some of the soldering "slag" with my finger nail and that seems to fix the problem. It boots just fine now. Not sure where the short was but I must have fixed it with the scrapping.
Happy, happy, happy!
