I received a Adafruit 16x32 LED matrix panel this week, then when upon trying it for the first time the LEDS went on and off in just a second followed by a smell of burned electronics. On the back the ICN2245 regulator (U2) is clearly the one that got passed away since it there is visual damage. I don't reclaim seeing this when it got here. I was testing with a 5V 5A power supply, during usage I just noticed the voltage to drop a little below 5V when turning on the display for the first time, but it's OK for the current it draws. Using the same power supply with an Arduino and Raspberry Pi seems to work just fine. Could it be that I got a faulty 16x32 matrix display? When I apply voltage again, regulator U2 starts to give more smoke immediately. No microcontroller involed yet so there is only the power supply and the LED matrix.
