led analog strip lights

Post by Jim750 »

Hi,

I'm posting this in hopes of getting some real answers since there is no way to speak with anyone at adafruit on the phone and the 'customer service' emails do not answer any of my inquiries whatsoever.

I'm interesting in your led strip lights ' rgb led waterproof
flexi-strip 60 led' ID 346.
Obviously these are 60 LEDs/ meter, but what is the size rating on the
lights? Are they 3528 or 5050?

What waterproof rating are they, what sort or covering do they have?
I'm looking for the epoxy coated vs the silicone tube coated, making
it a ip65 rating I believe.

You call them flexi strips, I'm assuming that are flexible, but just
wanted to clarify?

Last, I need some educating on what separates your lights at $112.50
per 5m roll vs endless listings on amazon for example somewhere around
$15/ meter? I want quality lights, and am not looking for the cheapest
out there or else I would have bought off Amazon. So for that large
discrepancy, could you justify the cost difference to me. I'm looking
at getting a true white light out of these, are yours better than
other brands that might be more blueish white. Thanks in advance for
the information.

Regards,
Jim

Hi Jim, welcome to the forums.

These strips are made up of 5050 leds as described in the on-line product guide: http://learn.adafruit.com/rgb-led-strips/schematic
The manufacturer does not provide a specific IP rating. The flexible circuit board backing is over-molded with a waterproof flexible plastic. It is not an epoxy or a silicone sheath. These are waterproof, but are not UV resistant, so outdoor installations in direct sunlight are not recommended.

The strips are flexible and have an adhesive backing, so they can be mounted to curved surfaces. As with any 'flex' circuit board, the solder joints can be damaged by repeated flexing and/or very small radius bends.

I can't speak to the quality or product support offered by other vendors. What we offer are guaranteed high quality strips and on-line technical support here in the forums.
