My RGB 20x4 LGB Appears Faulty

Post by Belial88 »

The first 8 characters of the top 2 rows of my 20x4 RGB LCD from here has a different contrast than the other characters, and sometimes the characters are even a little buggy.

Connections seem fine (and I've been told this doesnt appear to be a connection issue). I can run LCD smartie just fine. The LCD worked just fine in debugging for the last few months and for a few weeks once actually installed. No excessive heat, no water.

Help :X

It looks like it could be a contact issue between the liquid crystal module and the display controller board. Does gentle pressure on the display bezel change anything?

Pressing on the actual display itself? It has that liquidy affect of course but no, it doesnt change it.

If it is a contact problem, sometimes pressing on the metal frame around the display will improve things. If not, there is not much you can do.

These displays are warranted for 30 days.

I didn't get 30 days of usage out of it. That's kinda sucky, how can I make sure this doesn't happen again?

In general, these displays tend to be pretty reliable. We sell thousands and have few reported problems. I've had a couple in service 24x7 for 3-4 years now.

If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread, we can offer you a discount on a replacement.

Okay my new one came in and it's not working. There's no contrast. I mess with the pot and those contrast boxes don't change, no characters show up.

Before you install it could you get some large, clear photos of both sides as you have it connected.
