A power supply for both the Raspberry Pi and HDMI 4 Pi 10.1"

Post by spoonsphere »

Hello!

I'd like to use a Raspberry Pi with the HDMI 4 Pi 10.1" 1280x800 IPS Display for a project. Or perhaps the 7" - though it doesn't have mounting tabs like the 10" and 5.6" variants.

The Raspberry Pi, the controller for the display, and the display itself will all reside in a single, custom built case.

I would really like to not have two wall warts attached to this thing.

Could you provide some direction on a single power supply for both the display and the Raspberry Pi, that could also be embedded in the chassis? That way, all that is coming out of the chassis is a single power cord, with no wall wart at the other end.

Thanks so much!

Would the Meanwell RS-15-5 power supply work?

http://www.meanwell.com/search/rs-15/default.htm

At 5V, 3A, it should be able to power both the Raspberry Pi and the display.

However, since the power supply has a single pair of DC -V and DC +V output, how do I feed the Raspberry Pi and the display? Can I connect two devices to the one output? Or would I need to cascade power from one device to the next?

Or do I need to go with RS-100-5?

http://www.meanwell.com/search/rs-100/default.htm

It's a bit overkill, providing 16A. It's also physically larger, and will cost more.

If I can sort through which power supply, I should be able to use this screw terminal block to 2.1mm barrel to power the display:

And this type micro-B plug at the Raspberry Pi end and run a wire to the screw terminal block to power the Raspberry Pi:

Add to a 3 prong male receptacle:

Am I on the right track here? Or is there a better approach?

On a related note, what do you think about carrying Meanwell (or similar) power supplies?

Thanks so much!
