What is a safe input voltage range for the +12V LED strips?

Post by ineffective dosage »

What is an acceptable voltage input range for the LED strips (ws2801 based) such as https://www.adafruit.com/products/683 (which require +12V)?

Would feeding them from an 11.1V Li-Po (which can go from roughly 10-ish to 12-ish volts) do the trick, or should I expect problems?

Feeding my project from a single 11.1V li-po would be super convenient but I'd like to know before I drop almost $70 on one of the 12V LED strips first...

Thank you!

I've run them from a 9v pack with no problems. Not quite as bright as a full 12v, but still quite functional. 11.1v should not be a problem at all.
