That worked for me also.

I also had some suspicion about my physical USB connection,
things just don't always start up the way I think they should.
So I put a short USB jumper in place as well. I may take the jumper out
later to see if I was correct or just paranoid.

I made the same operations and for me too the dongle belkin n300 ( RTL9182CU) does not start...
Curious and stubborn as a mule, I said to myself that I lost nothing to redo the manip without making of OPKG UPDATE and OPKG UPGRADE.
