Help! Cannot SSH VIA USB to SSB

Help! Cannot SSH VIA USB to SSB
Just got my BBB. Using Mac OS 10.8 and have downloaded drivers from BBB Website. I am able to get the green BBB Connected bar BUT when I try to SSH using the posted ADAFRUIT instructions via Firefox all I get is a "Connecting" message and nothing happens. I am a real neophyte and have tried looking googling for help but can't seem to get started. Any help appreciated

Do you get a mounted drive on your desktop when you plug the BBB in?
