How to wire beaglebone pcb proto cape?

Post by flipphone »

Hello

I was wondering if the beaglebone proto cape has traces that go in a certain direction in the center section? It's not really apparent by looking at it

Thanks!

No. None of the pads are connected to each other.

Hi!

I was just about to ask a similar question - what is the smartest way to do the wiring on a pcb proto cape? Do you have a picture of a project? I assume that it's trivial, but all solutions I can think of are kind of hacky.

Many thanks!

With pad-per-hole board (like the Proto Cape has), The usual solution is to leave the leads of your components long and tack them pad-by-pad so they act like PCB traces.

You can also trim the component leads short and use wire to connect them.. either bare wire tacked pad-by-pad as before, or insulated wire running between points that aren't easy to connect with what amounts to a single-sided PCB layout. When you use insulated wire the usual practice is to solder it into a hole next to the component and bend a tail of wire across to the pad where the component lead is soldered.
