Can you please release the vector art for this case so that we can use it as a starting point for designing our own?

like all our cases, this will be up on thingiverse shortly! it will be creative commons share-alike attribution as usual.

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
Wow, I got the "in-stock" notification, added it to my cart, and while I was browsing inventory it sold out again. Maybe it'd be possible to consider reserving items for a few minutes (10 seems fair) when a registered user adds it to their cart? Though there are dragons with such a feature. Anyway, I look forward to clicking the "check out" button faster next time.
I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing the design posted at http://www.thingiverse.com/adafruit/things so that if this happens again I can make my own at my trusty local Hackerspace.

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
Thank you very much for posting the files on Thingiverse. I laser-cut my own case today. It was a lot of fun and came out great. Here's what I learned. These settings are probably specific to our laser-cutter, a Universal Laser Systems PLS 6.60, which uses CorelDraw 5 to drive it.
Street Kitteh wasn't impressed.
- I used 1/8th inch thick acrylic
- When CorelDraw imported the .ai file the whole thing was too small. I had to scale it up from 100% to 127%. My Pi is a *little* loose in my case. I'll bump my scale down a smidge and try again this weekend, then share my CorelDraw file here or on Thingiverse, in case others have a ULS laser.
- I chose my scale factor by trial-and-error (practice on paper before using acrylic!), based off of the assumption that there should be 1.5" from the far left of the network hole to the far-right of the USB hole. I don't know why CorelDraw imported the file at the wrong size, this is probably my bad. In my print there's about 0.5mm of "play" in the rectangular slots.
- I had to set all the vector lines in CorelDraw to "Hairline" width
- I changed all the vector cut lines to "red" and text to "black", to correspond with the settings / conventions for our hackerspace laser cutter
- I set all the text to no stroke, and chose a "fill" color that corresponded to the raster mode of our laser cutter software
- The "sproingy" bits tended to fuse to the surrounding material. I'll try increasing the speed of the vector cut a little bit next time so that not so much heat is in such a small area. One of my sproingy bits broke when I got too forceful removing it.
Street Kitteh wasn't impressed.

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
I just received my Pi Box and put it together however when putting one of the end plates on the "dragon claw" chipped the corner off (it was very stiff and didn't go in right and when i let go of it a tiny chip flew off) is it possible to just but the sd card/power end plate?

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
so far that's the first we've heard, but it's possible with plastic cases always. send a note to [email protected] and we'll see what we can do!ukscone wrote:I just received my Pi Box and put it together however when putting one of the end plates on the "dragon claw" chipped the corner off (it was very stiff and didn't go in right and when i let go of it a tiny chip flew off) is it possible to just but the sd card/power end plate?

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
almost certainly 99.99% my fault. it was a bit stiff and I am cackhanded.
it's not that big a deal as it's only the tiny corner bit https://twitter.com/#!/ukscone/media/sl ... 2FS989Fa3A and actually not really noticable unless you know it's there and then it'll weigh on your mind nagging away until the end of time.

no problem, as per our email, we're tossing a spare in your current order.ukscone wrote:almost certainly 99.99% my fault. it was a bit stiff and I am cackhanded. it's not that big a deal as it's only the tiny corner bit https://twitter.com/#!/ukscone/media/sl ... 2FS989Fa3A and actually not really noticable unless you know it's there and then it'll weigh on your mind nagging away until the end of time.

Re: Raspberry Pi Box (laser-cut case)
The 2nd case i'd ordered (and the gpio cables) arrived today and while putting this one together I worked out what the problem was. I didn't follow the video instructions EXACTLY I put the end plate on the "dragon claws" first then clicked it into place rather than putting it on the non-"dragon claw" bits then squishing the "dragon claws". so it was 100% my fault but you might want to idiot proof the instructions and put a small warning that if you are a heavy handed idiot who forces things it'll break.
