Clear acrylic enclosure is opaque

When I opened the package from Adafruit I expect this: http://adafruit.com/products/859. I was surprised to see this instead. http://cl.ly/image/0b0e2r2F2e2Z



That doesn't seem like a clear acrylic enclosure to me.

I was able to remove only one piece of the brown covering. However, removing the other pieces appears to require me to use something to scratch the surface.

Just so you understand why I think this is difficult. Here is an image of the side. Notice how the brown paper appears glued to the plastic? Notice the lack of any edge under which I could use a finger nail or knife to pry the paper away from the plastic? I could use a sharp edge to scratch into the paper but ... then the clear acrylic would be scratched.

What did you use to remove the brown paper?

I tend to use my nails, and lots of patience with these kinds of things. Some google-fu suggests soaking it in (hot) water, rubbing babyoil on it, or eucalyptus-oil, leave it for 15 minutes and then it should scrape off with a piece of wood, or a mist of silicone spray and then waiting a minute. Also heat is suggested like from a hot air gun or such, but of course be careful cause you don't want to melt the plastic.
Or rolling something over it, to get it started, if you already got some off, then sticking that to another and rolling it can help pick up the paper up as well. whatever you do, dont use anything with alcohol or other corrosive chemicals.

it's a sticker, it just peels off, a finger nail will do it!

Get a piece of masking tape or other similar sticky tape (blue painters tape might work, but it might not be sticky enough). Press it firmly onto the brown protective paper at the corner, then peel the masking tape away starting with the outside edge. The brown paper should peel right off.

I make my own snap together enclosures out of acrylic glass and they always have a protective layer and sometimes it can be tough.

Maybe a lil steam, or soaking it in warm water would help soften the glue. One time I had to go as far as getting out the glue gun and glued on lil grips near the corners to get that first bit of lift.

The worst is when you finally get it up and start peeling then it rips on you and you gotta dig at it again, like w/ a sticker label. lol. Murphy's Law, right!

By the way, I love how you guys did your snap together ends. I will mos def be using that idea. Mine were a bit different. Mine were always mini lil clip and groove style like you see in most consumer cases. Yours mAkes it easy to take apart often while avoiding that ever so present wear and tear. Sometimes they are just never the same once you pry em open. But yours are great. Thanx.
